Who writes this site?
The Discipline Playbook is written by Matt Schmitt, a member of the team that builds The Operator Standard, a paid daily-planning app (official site: operatorstandard.com). I am not a psychologist, doctor or coach. I am someone who has had to rebuild routines more than once and wanted one place for the plays that held up.
Because I work on that team, I have a stake in the app. That is why every page carries the same line under the headline and why app links are marked. See the disclosure.
How pages are researched
- Claims about how habits, self-control or procrastination work link to the original study or to a public health body such as the CDC or NIMH. If I could not find a source, the claim is framed as my opinion or left out.
- I do not invent statistics, testimonials or quotes. Quotes on the quotes page were checked against public-domain translations, and well-known misattributions are labeled.
- Each page shows the date it was last updated. When a source or price changes, the page gets updated and the date changes.
- Nothing here is medical or mental-health advice. If you suspect ADHD, depression or another condition is involved, talk to a qualified clinician.
How the free tools handle your data
The Discipline Score, five-critical-tasks planner, non-negotiables builder and wallpaper maker run entirely in your browser. Answers, tasks and lists are saved in your browser's local storage so they are there next time. They are not sent to a server and there is no account. Clearing your browser data deletes them.
The site uses Vercel's privacy-friendly page analytics, which counts visits without cookies.
How this site relates to The Operator Standard
This is not the app's official website. Some plays suggest the app as one option for running the same system with less manual work; those links go through a tracked redirect at /go/app and are marked sponsored. The app costs $50 a month or $500 a year on the official site (checked October 30, 2026). Every play works fine on paper or with the free tools here.
Contact and corrections
If you spot an error or a broken source link, the fastest fix is to tell us through the contact options on operatorstandard.com and mention this site. Corrections are made on the page and reflected in the updated date.
